When Is the Best Time to Trek in Northern Pakistan?
Northern Pakistan is one of those rare destinations that's worth visiting in almost any season — but the experience changes dramatically with the time of year. Here's a quick breakdown to help you plan.
Spring (April – May)
Lower valleys come alive with cherry and apricot blossom, particularly in Hunza and the Kaghan Valley. This is a beautiful, quieter time to visit. Fairy Meadows is accessible from May, and the trails are less crowded than summer. High-altitude camps may still carry snow.
Summer (June – September)
The main trekking season. All of our treks are fully open, the high passes are clear, and the days are long. This is the best window for:
- Fairy Meadows & Nanga Parbat Base Camp — June through September
- Haramosh Valley & Kutwal Lake — July and August are ideal
- Rakaposhi Base Camp — June through September
- Nangma Valley — July through early September
Autumn (late September – October)
Our favourite season for photography. The crowds thin, the air turns crystal clear, and the valleys erupt into reds, yellows and gold. Haramosh Valley and Saral & Dudipatsar Lakes are especially stunning in autumn. Nights get cold, but days are often perfect.
Winter (November – March)
The high routes close under snow, but the Karakoram Highway stays open and Hunza in winter has a stark, haunting beauty. It isn't trekking season — but if you're curious about the region, a winter cultural trip is an unforgettable experience.
