If you have one week and want a true taste of the Himalaya, this is the trek. Fairy Meadows is a gentle, pine-fringed grassland perched directly opposite the colossal Rakhiot Face of Nanga Parbat — at 8,126 m, the ninth-highest mountain on Earth, and one of the most breathtaking sights in Pakistan.

The route is refreshingly accessible: a midnight departure from Islamabad, a hair-raising jeep ride up the Raikot cliff track, and a short forest hike is all it takes to arrive in a meadow that looks like it was lifted from a fairy tale. From there, a day hike takes you up to Beyal Camp — with the option to push all the way to base camp for close views of the glacier and the legendary Rakhiot Face.

Evenings mean bonfires, star-filled skies and the silence of the high mountains. The return leg swings through Naran for white-water rafting on the Kunhar River — a perfect high note to end the adventure before heading back to the city.

Itinerary

Day 1

Islamabad → Babusar Pass → Raikot Bridge → Fairy Meadows

Depart Islamabad at midnight. Breakfast at Kiwai en route, then a short sightseeing stop at the spectacular Babusar Pass. Arrive at Raikot Bridge around noon — board a jeep for the thrilling cliff-edge track up to Tatu village, then hike through pine forest to reach Fairy Meadows by evening. Dinner and overnight in camp tents.

Day 2

Fairy Meadows → Beyal Camp (+ optional Nanga Parbat Base Camp)

After breakfast with Nanga Parbat filling the horizon, hike up to Beyal Camp through alpine meadows and juniper scrub. The adventurous can push on to Nanga Parbat Base Camp (3,967 m) for close glacier views before returning to Beyal. Bonfire, stargazing and an unforgettable night under the Rakhiot Face.

Day 3

Beyal Camp → Fairy Meadows

Leisurely morning breakfast at Beyal, then hike back down to Fairy Meadows. Spend the afternoon exploring the meadow, resting, or taking short walks through the forest. Bonfire in the evening, dinner, and a final night at the fairy-tale campsite.

Day 4

Fairy Meadows → Tatu → Raikot Bridge → Naran

Post-breakfast hike back to Tatu village, then jeep down to Raikot Bridge. Drive onward to Naran — a scenic mountain town on the Kunhar River. Dinner and hotel stay in Naran.

Day 5

Naran → Islamabad

Breakfast in Naran, then white-water rafting on the Kunhar River and time to explore the valley's waterfalls and viewpoints. Drive back to Islamabad, arriving by evening.
